Jeson Patrombon’s stint in the 2011 Wimbledon came to an abrupt halt Wednesday night.
Patrombon, teaming up with New Zealand’s Jaden Grinter, faltered to Australia’s Ben Wagland and Andrew Whittington, 6-3, 6-7 (5), 6-3, in the first round of the boy’s doubles.
World’s number 11 in the juniors division, Patrombon earlier succumbed to a 7-6 (1), 6-1 defeat over an unseeded Belgian Kimmer Coppejans in the second round of the boys division.
Patrombon, though, was battling with a swollen right foot he suffered during match point of his opening 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 win against a six-foot-three German Julian Lenz.
Unforced errors threw Patrombon out the entire match as he had 19 compared to the Belgian’s 13.
The Wimbledon website match summary also showed that Coppejan had a huge advantage in winning the first serves, 85 percent, while Patrombon only conjured 59 percent.
But the 18-year-old from Iligan City, who is also ranked 1252 in the men’s division, scored more aces, 5 to 1, and winners, 13 to 9.
