UAAP: NU setter Lams Lamina still pondering next move

MANILA, Philippines — Lams Lamina will take her time before deciding if she will play one more year for the National University Lady Bulldogs next UAAP season or join batchmates Bella Belen, Alyssa Solomon, Sheena Toring, and Erin Pangilinan in the next chapter of their careers.
Lamina, a three-time champion and two-time Best Setter, was a vital piece to the Lady Bulldogs’ successful title defense in UAAP Season 87. became a two-time Best Setter and three-time UAAP champion after flaunting her brilliant playmaking in Game 2 with 16 excellent sets to complete a 25-19, 25-18, 25-19 sweep of La Salle on Wednesday at Mall of Asia Arena.

In case she decides to come back for her fifth and final year, Lamina is ready to lead the next batch of the Lady Bulldogs with coFinals MVP Vange Alinsug and Shaira Jardio.
“If I stay for one more year, maybe this is the time for us to lead NU,” said the 23-yearold Lamina in Filipino. “If I do come back, I want to pass on everything we’ve learned. I’ve picked up so much from my batch, especially the kind of culture we’ve built. I want the new players to experience that too.”
NU had three different coaches in its three titles over the past four years, but Lamina believes their bond–formed since high school–made them the most successful program in the post-pandemic era.

“Our chemistry was a huge factor. We’ve been together for a long time, and we all share the same goal: to win championships,” she said.
From failing to defend their title in Season 85 two years ago, Lamina is fulfilled to finally complete a successful defense, winning 12 of their 14 elimination round games before taking down Far Eastern University in the Final and sweeping La Salle in the Finals for the second time in their three championship series.
“I’m super happy because I really saw how much everyone worked hard. We fought for this, making it to the Finals and achieving our goal of becoming champions. I’m proud of my teammates, especially because we were all healthy and complete when we [finished] the Finals,” she said.
