More tactical course unveiled for Subic 70.3
A relatively new race course that promises to make the Century Tuna Ironman 70.3 Subic Bay in Olongapo an even faster spectacle will be the obstacle a banner field will have to hurdle for glory—and World Championship slots—on Sunday.
Still to be contested over a 1.9-kilometer (km) swim, 90-km bike and 21-km run, the race will have a fresher look that will test even the most seasoned of triathletes.
“We have slightly modified the bike course and introduced a new run route to keep things fresh and exciting,” said race director Julian Valencia.
The new bike route introduces a more technical layout, with sharper turns, rolling elevations and extended flat stretches that will demand both tactical precision and sustained power output.
Meanwhile, more than 150 young athletes get weekend action rolling when the RLC Residences Ironkids event is flagged off where trophies in three divisions will be at stake.
The updated run course, meanwhile, will be on more exposed and potentially wind-swept paths, increasing the mental and physical strain in the final leg of the race.
The organizing Sunrise Events, Inc. has ensured a seamless and safe race experience, marshalling all necessary resources to support athletes throughout. Enhanced safety protocols include additional medical personnel, improved course signage, hydration stations and continuous on-course monitoring.
