MANILA, Philippines — For the second straight year, Jia De Guzman and Angel Canino placed among top performers in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) Women’s Nations Cup.
After making a historic finals appearance in the AVC for the first time in 64 years, three Alas stars were honored in the tournament awards, including first-time AVC awardee Dell Palomata, who was named as Best Middle Blocker.

MANILA, Philippines — Alas Pilipinas got dominated by world-class and three-peat champion Vietnam, but its first silver medal in the Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) showed the progress the women’s volleyball program has made.
Alas is taking home a silver medal that shines like gold after being swept by Vietnam, 15-25, 17-25, 14-25, in the AVC Women’s Nations Cup Final at Dong Anh Arena in Hanoi.
The Vietnamese turned to Tran Thi Thanh Thuy and Nguyen Thi Bich Tuyen, who hammered 20 and 17 points, respectively, to complete a six-game sweep of the Nations Cup.

Despite a young core and limited preparation for the continental meet since last year, the players’ mindset has been to go all out every time they step on the court.
That’s exactly what Alas Pilipinas did Friday night en route to a historic semifinal win over gritty Chinese Taipei, 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 15-25, 15-12 at Dong Anh Arena in Hanoi, Vietnam.

MANILA, Philippines — When Alas Pilipinas was on the brink of heartbreak in Hanoi, Eya Laure came to save the day and sent the women’s national volleyball program to its first-ever Asian Volleyball Confederation (AVC) gold medal match in 64 years.
Alas found a hero in Laure in the fifth set as she scored six of her nine points to deny Chinese Taipei’s comeback, 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 15-25, 15-12, and book a historic ticket to the final on Friday night at Dong Anh Arena.
“She has enough maturity to handle pressure and she knows the team trusts her. She has always been a key player in her career,” Alas coach Jorge Souza De Brito told Inquirer Sports.

Alas Pilipinas surpassed its historic bronze medal run last year as it weathered Chinese Taipei’s comeback, 25-17, 25-21, 18-25, 15-25, 15-12, to advance to the AVC Women’s Nations Cup final on Friday night at Dong Anh Arena in Hanoi, Vietnam.
In the scary moments of the match when Alas blew a two-set lead, the Filipino Spikers found a stabilizer in Eya Laure as she delivered the big hits to restore order with a 10-7 start in the fifth set.
