Informatics, CEU cagers barge into Naascu semis

MANILA, Philippines–INFORMATICS AND Centro Escolar University hurdled separate rivals yesterday to gain the last two tickets to the semifinals of the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (Naascu) men’s basketball at the University of Manila Gym.
Informatics drubbed New Era, 91-63, to earn the right to challenge twice-to-beat qualifier STI, while CEU nipped Fatima,
61-58, to forge a duel against leader UM (16-2) in the semifinals slated tomorrow.
STI and Informatics actually finished the eliminations with similar 13-5 win-loss slates, but the Olympians nudged the Icons for the No. 2 slot and the twice-to-beat bonus on account of a better quotient.
But things will be different in the semifinals as STI will be missing four key players, who were all ejected during their fight-marred game against Fatima last Tuesday.
Center MacLean Sabellina, guards Jerald Bautista and Hessed Gabo, and forward Ivan Moreno will serve their one-game suspension for various infractions.
Sabellina fought with Anthony Benavidez, while Bautista and Moreno were cited for joining the fray. Gabo committed two unsportsmanlike fouls which took him out of the game in the first quarter.
