VIGAN, Ilocos Sur — Alyssa Valdez relished the love that the Creamline Cool Smashers and the PVL received from Ilocano fans during the league’s preseason stop here.

Inspired by the warm welcome and loud atmosphere at Chavit Coliseum, Valdez led Creamline to a perfect two-game Vigan trip after staving off Akari, 27-25, 22-25, 25-19, 25-18, on Monday evening in the PVL on Tour.

“It’s been about eight years now since I started playing for Creamline, and the love and support from every Filipino and volleyball fan all over the Philippines is still just as strong,” Valdez told reporters in Filipino.

“Right now, we’re here in Vigan. It’s really warm, and even though it’s rainy, the welcome we’ve got here was amazing.”

The three-time Conference MVP had 16 points and 18 excellent receptions, conspiring with Michele Gumabao and Jema Galanza to tie Cignal at 2-0 before they collide on July 1 at FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

More than the game, Valdez said the preseason on Tour format is “a great way to give back to the fans.”

“At the end of the day, we want to thank them. They help us keep volleyball growing in our country. It’s also a way to reconnect with our roots. This is my first time in Vigan, and I love experiencing the culture and tasting all the local food,” said Valdez.

“I’m really happy, and I hope this continues, with more people supporting all the teams in the PVL.”

Valdez credited their good start to their three-week preparation with their rookies Sheena Toring and Nica Celis, months after losing the All-Filipino championship to Petro Gazz.

“I hope this is just the beginning. We still have a lot to improve with our new teammates,” she said.
