Chinese Taipei edges Qatar, set to face the Philippines in the quarterfinals

MANILA, Philippines—Chinese Taipei edged Qatar, 75-73, on a last-second slam Tuesday to set up a quarterfinals encounter with Gilas-Pilipinas II in the Fiba Asia Cup in Tokyo, Japan.

The Philippines finished second in Group A with a 3-1 record behind Lebanon.

The Nationals lone loss came against China in the opener and since then they were able to chalk up double-digit wins over Lebanon, Uzbekistan and Macau.

Taipei will head into the knockout quarterfinals stage with a 2-2 record. Shih Chieh led his team with 15 points, six rebounds, five assists.

The PH-Taipei battle will be on Thursday at 7 p.m.
