University of Asia and the Pacific and Assumption scored straight-set wins to snare the last two quarterfinals slots of the 43rd WNCAA senior volleyball tournament over the weekend.
UA&P dominated Emilio Aguinaldo College, 25-8, 25-10, 25-12, while Assumption ousted La Consolacion, 25-17, 25-14, 25-9, at St. Scholastica Manila gym.
UA&P will take on Senior B top team Miriam while Assumption battles Senior A topnotcher Centro Escolar U in the quarterfinals. Other matches pit St. Scholastica and Philippine Women’s U, and San Beda-Alabang and defending champion Rizal Technological U.
Miriam and CEU swept the eliminations to gain the twice-to-beat bonus. The rest of the quarterfinal duels are knockout matches.
In the midget division, defending champion Miriam kept second spot after a 16-25, 25-7, 26-24 win over Poveda. San Beda is on top at 5-0, Miriam has a 4-0 card and host De La Salle Zobel, a 25-22, 25-19 winner over St. Scholastica, sits on third place at 4-1.
St. Jude improved to 2-3 after stopping St. Paul Pasig, 25-10, 25-12.
In basketball at RTU gym in Mandaluyong, Miriam secured the No. 1 spot with a 5-0 sweep of Junior A after dumping St. Stephen, 57-15, while Assumption took No. 2 with a 39-30 win over St. Jude. La Salle Antipolo is the third quarterfinalist. Romina S. Austria
