Superal shoots 70, zooms away by 11

PrincessSuperal fired a near-flawless two-under-par 70 and pulled away from the field by 11 strokes after the second round of the 100 Plus Malaysian Junior Open Golf Championship at Saujana Golf and Country Club in Malaysia late Thursday.

The 15-year-old Superal, who opened a two-shot lead over Malaysian Asha Lakshme with a shaky 72 Wednesday, bucked a three-putt bogey on No. 9 with birdies on Nos. 14, 15 and 18 inside six feet to storm unassailably ahead with 142.

“[Superal’s] shotmaking was superb,” said ICTSI team ladies coach Carmelette Villaroman. “She could’ve scored lower but her putting didn’t work as much as she wanted to.”

The former Philippine Ladies Open champion said Superal misread five makable birdie putts.

With her huge lead, Superal is poised to keep Team ICTSI’s winning streak the last four weeks.

Lakshme limped home with an 82 and tumbled to fourth at 156.

Her fellow Malaysian Genevieve Ling took the challenger’s role but had a lot of catching up to do at 153 after a 77.
