PHILIPPINE welterweight king Dennis Laurente tries to extend his winning run to 19 when he tangles with towering Indonesian Jamed Jalarante at 6 p.m. on Saturday at Elorde Sports Center in Sucat, Parañaque.
The Laurente-Jalarante 10-round tussle headlines the “Boxing Kontra Droga” fight card presented by sportsman Johnny Elorde in cooperation with Rotary Club of Manila 101 headed by Manny Pacquiao and supported by Cobra Energy Drink and the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.
Though the 35-year-old Laurente (42 wins, 4 losses, 5 draws with 23 knockouts) is 5-foot-8, the World Boxing Council No. 5 contender will be giving away three inches to the 28-year-old Jalarante (20-14-1, 9 KOs).
Laurente, who has stopped his last four foes, is using the bout to hone for a possible stint in the undercard of Pacquiao-Juan Manuel Marquez IV on Dec. 8 in Las Vegas.
Juan Miguel Elorde, grandson of the great Gabriel “Flash” Elorde, will tangle with Arjet Caballes for six rounds in the supporting bout. Roy Luarca
