Que has clear path to OOM title

The seasoned Angelo Que has a first PGT Order of Merit (OOM) crown within reach, and the 46-year-old, who has accomplished a lot in a long career, is taking this one seriously by seeing action and leading a star-studded field in the ICTSI Valley Golf Challenge, firing off Tuesday in Antipolo.

A three-time Asian Tour winner and former PH Open champ, Que is one good week away from a first OOM as he comes in as one of the favorites at the South course of the Valley complex where he will try to fend off Fidel Concepcion, the only one who has a chance at overtaking him.

Keanu Jahns is actually running second to Que, just over P76,000 behind, after earnings of P1,484,183 built around two victories. But the Filipino German, regarded as one of the longest hitters on tour in the last three years or so, has decided to skip the tournament in favor of a long-overdue family vacation in Japan.

And that leaves Concepcion as the main challenger, with the likes of Guido van der Valk, Rupert Zaragosa and Reymon Jaraula, who have also triumphed this year, way out of contention.

Concepcion, who finally broke through at Apo, a P3.5 million event, is P310,833 behind, with his only chance of winning the OOM being to win in Antipolo and hope that Que doesn’t make weekend play.
