Philippines’ Wesley So lands 4th in AAI Grandmasters Chess in New Delhi
MANILA, Philippines—Wesley So settled for a draw with eventual champion Fabiano Caruana of Italy in the 10th and final round to finish fourth in the AAI Grandmasters Chess Tournament in New Delhi Saturday.
Playing black, So (Elo 2667) forced a draw after 30 moves of a Catalan Opening to wind up with five points on two wins, six draws and two losses).
The top-seeded Caruana (Elo 2714) won $8,000 by topping the six-player field with seven points.
Final standings: 7 points —GM Fabiano Caruana (Italy, $8,000); 6.0— GM Krishnan Sasikiran (India, $6,000); 5.5—GM Viktor Laznicka (Czech Republic, $4,000); 5.0— GM Wesley So (PH, $3,000); 3.5—GM Parimarjan Negi (India, $2,000); 3.0—GM Hou Yifan (China, $1,500)
