Lingayen pair edges tough DLSU-D duo
LINGAYEN—Local bets Melanie Carrera and Cassandra Lleda bounced back from a loss Thursday with a pair of wins to barge into the semifinals of the 2012 Petron Ladies’ Beach Volleyball Battle of Champions.
Carrera and Lleda nipped De La Salle U-Dasmariñas’ Iari Yongco and Giselle Bembo, 24-22, and crushed Mapua’s Bianca Reyes and Mabelle Lau, 21-14, at the capitol grounds here.
Carrera and Lleda, playing under the Pangasinan-2 banner, made the semifinals after finishing the elimination round with a 3-1 record in Group A.
Article continues after this advertisementThey will join Rizal Technological U’s Jessa Aranda and Jonafer San Pedro, who swept their four-game assignment, in the next round where they will tangle with provincemates Jennifer Manzano and Cindy Benitez.
The RTU bets will take on University of the East-1’s Kryssel Cueva and Francislyn Cais, who clinched the second Group B semis berth with their 3-1 slate.
The 24-year-old Manzano, who is from the municipality of Binalonan and the Guisang-based Benitez, capped their sweep of Group B with a 21-17 stopping of Emilio Aguinaldo College bets Donna Factor and Lourdes Patilano.
