D-League stint for JRU Bombers
Jose Rizal University hopes to challenge the heavyweights when the Heavy Bombers debut in the PBA D-League late this month
“We’ll just do the best we can,” said JRU coach Vergel Meneses. “Hopefully, being an underdog will serve us in good stead.”
Three-time champion NLEX remains a favorite in a strong field that includes Big Chill, Cebuana Lhuillier, Blackwater Sports, Boracay Rum, Café France, Cagayan Rising Suns, Erase Plantcenta, Informatics/Phiten and HTC Philippines.
Article continues after this advertisement“We know the teams here are strong,” said Meneses, adding that a stint in the league will expose his players to a “high level of competition and develop the chemistry of the team.”
The Bombers, led by wingman Nate Matute, are still vying for a Final Four slot in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
“This will also help us in our preparation for the next NCAA season,” said Meneses.
