Lady Falcons crush SLU softbelles in 3 innings

RIZZA Bernardino, Julie Marie Muyco and Baby Jane Raro combined for a no-hit, no-run, no-error game as powerhouse Adamson University took only three innings to outclass St. Louie University, 29-0, yesterday at the start of the Cebuana Lhuilller National Intercollegiate women’s softball championship at Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City.

Bernardino, best pitcher and MVP of the recent Big League World Series won by Team Manila, retired the first three St. Louie batters she faced.

Muyco, the country’s No. 1 pitcher, and Raro duplicated the feat in their turn at the mound as the Lady Falcons opened their bid for a three-peat.

All but one of the Lady Falcons coach Ana Santiago fielded connected in a 16-hit attack against 16-year-old SLU engineering freshman Elizabeth Taynec.

Shortstop Queenie Sabobo went perfect in two trips at the plate and had one run-batted-in. Rookie pinchhitters Lorna Adorable and Andrea Mae Gonzales matched Sabobo’s effort while driving in three and two runs, respectively.

Luzviminda Embudo and Elvie Entrina, two of five members of the Philippine Blu Girls in coach Santiago’s roster, also singled and doubled home a combined five runs to the delight of the crowd in the opener of the 12-team, one-round series sponsored by Cebuana Lhuillier, Cebuana Pera Padala, Le Soleil de Boracay, Cebuana Lhuillier Insurance Solutions, Just Jewels and Phiten.

University of the East scored all its three runs in the first inning in a 3-1 victory over University of Santo Tomas.

It was a bleak day for provincial campaigners as University of the Philippines dumped Bulacan State University, 11-1.
