CARLO dela Torre and Samantha Bermudez will try to keep their status as the country’s top riders in the final leg of the 1st Monster Energy Drink Philippine Qualifier Series today at Deca Homes-Clark Wake Park in Angeles City.
Dela Torre, runner-up in the previous leg in Davao, paces the Open Wakeboard men’s division with 385 points. Symon Cantos and Christian Joson, toting 320 and 317 points, respectively, are expected to give him a tough fight for the series plum, along with Davao champion Zech Stephenson.
Bermudez, now with 400 points, is seeking her third straight win in the women’s side against closest rival Andrea Tanjangco, who is in second with 370 points, and Patricia Espeleta and Alex Andrada, who are tied for third with 171 points apiece.
Bermudez is also eyeing the title in the Open Women’s Wakeskate class, where she trails frontrunning Cebu-based Swede Susan Larsson by 30 points.
Moe Gomez, also with 400 points, is eyeing a three-leg sweep in the Open Men’s Wakeskate against Christian Joson (356) and Chad Venadas (304)
The champions will automatically comprise the Philippine team in the Cable Wakeboard World Championships presented by Deca Homes slated Nov. 6 to 11 in Clark Field.
