NU nips CLSU, stays in hunt

NATIONAL U recovered just in time to score a pulsating 7-6 victory over Central Luzon State University yesterday and stay in the hunt for a semifinal berth in the Cebuana Lhuillier National Intercollegiate Women’s Softball Championship at Rosario Sports Complex in Pasig City.

The Lady Bulldogs needed an extra inning to survive after blowing what looked like a safe 5-0 lead going into the seventh and last frame.

It was the third-straight win for the Lady Bulldogs, who are now tied with University of Santo Tomas and Polytechnic University of the Philippines on top of Group B.

NU still needs to beat PUP today in its final game of the elimination round to secure its place in the Final Four.

The Tigresses, who were to play the Ateneo Lady Eagles late yesterday, are already assured of a semifinal berth, after beating both NU and PUP earlier in the eliminations.

The crossover semifinal round will pit the top team in Group A after the elims—defending champion Adamson University—against the second best team in Group A. The best squad in Group B battles the No. 2 team in Group A, which is Rizal Technological University.

The Lady Falcons emerged the top team in their group after sweeping all their five  assignments. RTU wound up second with a 4-1 win-loss card.

CLSU scored a walkover win over University of the East earlier in the day, which the latter blamed on lack of transportation.
