Tracing the tricks and treachery at POC

/ 11:43 PM October 22, 2012

THE CHANCE for the long-delayed change in Philippine sports was traced in an exchange of text messages that started Saturday and culminated at press time yesterday.

National track and field association president Go Teng Kok, who has been waging a lonely battle against the dreaded group running the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC), was the recipient of the messages.

Go, also known as GTK in business and sports circles, has sent us the exchanges which, he says, should also be entitled “Tracing the treachery at the POC.”

Text No. 1: “Stop trying to convince MVP to run. Peping already has 22 NSAs —archery, bowling, canoe, equestrian, football, golf, gymnastics, handball, judo, karate, lawn bowl, rugby, shooting, skating, soft tennis, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, triathlon, wrestling, wushu.”

GTK: Is that all?

Text No. 2: “Peping can still get muay thai, pencak, sailing, volleyball. Talo na si MVP.”

GTK: How sure is Peping he would win?

Text No. 3: “That’s why he made sure Carrasco and Carrion are in his ticket. Then he added table tennis via kudeta (coup d’ etat). Finally created handball that has not even had any programs since formed pero may suweldo ang atleta.”

GTK: Do you have other information?

Text No. 4: “Also Mikee Romero (of shooting), sa kanya na, plus Lhuillier (softball). They were promised chef de mission [posts] for next prestigious games.”

GTK: What are his other plans?

Text No. 5: “Yung plano ni Peping, POC president for 4 years, vice si Romasanta [tuta ni Peping], tapos campaign for Binay in 2016 and get appointed PSC chair in 2017 at 83 years old. Commissioners will all be his people—hawak na niya ang POC for the 2016 elections kasi hawak niya ang pera.”

GTK: What do you foresee for PH sports?

Text No. 6: “Nothing, of course. But for you, you will be 74 then—patay ka na.”

GTK: Even if u refuse to identify urself, the way you relayed that info I know already who u are.

GTK: Thanks for your call last night. NSAs behind MVP are elated that meeting today (Oct. 22) will push through. What’s puzzling and making us impatient is we keep on waiting for MVP’s time and place so we can put our mindset. We are pleading for him to save PH sports. Time is not with us anymore and that wait-n-see tactic is favoring the power-hungry Cojuangco. Now is the time to decide. It’s make or break, or just let PH sports die by not doing the noble role to save it.
