BACOLOD — A shift in priority has decreased Maika de Oro’s time for training but the political science sophomore of host University of St. La Salle still proved too strong for the rest of the field yesterday as she retained her women’s discus throw title in the 17th Sandugo University Games here.

“It’s not my best but I understand because I haven’t been training as often as I used to,” said De Oro,  favored to nail her second gold in shotput late in the day.

Defending champion Far Eastern U set its title-retention campaign in motion with a sweep of the men and women’s 4x200m relay.

Anchored by Philippine National Games decathlon gold medalist Jeson Cid, the Tamaraws clocked 1 minute 27 seconds for the men’s relay gold medal. Also part of the quartet were Jerwin Ebcas, John Rey Bardos and newcomer Mark Ian Delos Santos.
