Ateneo, UE, NU, Adamson complete Unigames men’s hoops semis cast

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo de Manila University and University of the East disposed of tough foes Friday to complete an all-UAAP semifinals cast in the 2012 Sandugo Unigames men’s basketball comeptition.

In the rematch of the UAAP finals, Ateneo escaped University of Santo Tomas, 58-56, in overtime to book a seat in the final four and keep a clean slate.

Kiefer Ravena nailed a huge triple, before the Blue Eagles scored on freethrows to hold of the Growling Tigers anew in a packed WNU gym in Bacolod.

UE, meanwhile, slipped past CESAFI champions Southwestern University, 79-72, earlier in the same venue to also move to the next round.

National University clobbered University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos, 96-48, while Adamson University hammered Hercor College, 95-51 at USLS Coliseum.

NU and Adamson both advance to the semifinals while also keeping a clean slate in the tournament.

No teams from the Visayas and Mindanao region barged into the top four as the knockout semifinals start Saturday.
