ANTIPOLO—Jerrick Ahanmisi put up a solid debut in his first game with San Miguel Beer in what could be a promising sign moving forward.
Ahanmisi dropped 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting on top of four rebounds and four assists in 38 minutes as the Beermen shook off a sluggish first half to rout the Macau Giant Pandas, 123-109, on Tuesday here.
“I think I did pretty well,” Ahanmisi said. “There’s always things that I can improve on so hopefully next game I’m going to do a little bit better.
“I can be a little bit more efficient too in getting my own shot and also looking for my teammates as well,” he added.
It was Ahanmisi’s first appearance in a Beermen uniform since he and Paolo Hernandez were acquired from the Terrafirma Dyip in exchange for Juami Tiongson, rookie Chris Miller and a future draft pick.
The acquisition of Ahanmisi, who rose to prominence following a splendid Commissioner’s Cup, is seen as a move to bolster San Miguel’s depth as it eyes a return to the winning podium.
“I’m just glad that the coach trusted me and I just really need to build on it,” he said.
Ironically, Ahanmisi’s next game is against the Dyip on Saturday here, where he will not only face his former club but also his older brother Maverick.
The two spent two conferences together after Maverick had his trade request granted by Barangay Ginebra during the Philippine Cup.
“It’s gonna be fun. Gonna be excited again to play my former team. I’m just gonna go out there and do my best,” said Jerrick.
