ANTIPOLO–Jason Brickman was on a mission as Meralco finally broke through in Group B of the 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup at Ynares Sports Center on Saturday night.
Needing a bounce-back win after Wednesday’s heartbreaking loss to Phoenix, the Bolts turned to Brickman, whose steady play drew praise from coach Luigi Trillo.
“He always makes the right decisions… [In] this game, he played at a high level,” Trillo said after Meralco’s 122-114 win over Rain or Shine.
“He was in attack mode the whole time. When he’s making his shots and making his passes too, he’s hard to stop.”
Brickman finished with 19 points and seven assists while shooting 8-of-12 from the field, including three 3-pointers.
The former MPBL standout also orchestrated Meralco’s offense, helping five teammates score in double figures.
Antonio Hester had 21 points and nine rebounds. Chris Banchero added 15 points, while Bong Quinto and CJ Cansino chipped in 14 and 12, respectively. Chris Newsome also finished with 10 points.
Brickman, however, wasn’t focused on his individual numbers.
Instead, the veteran guard valued Meralco’s breakthrough victory, which evened the Bolts’ record at 1-1.
“It’s very important, we have a tough group so all the games will be tough to win so it’s important to bounce back after a loss,” he said.
