Olsen Racela relished in ‘first game’ as Petron coach

MANILA, Philippines – Coach Olsen Racela found himself in an unfamiliar situation in Petron’s 110-98 win over Air21.

For the first time, Racela, the newly appointed head coach, was in full control of the Boosters.

“That’s one thing I have to get used to, having the board all to myself,” admitted Racela, whose younger brother Nash, was officially named as Far Eastern University’s new head coach in the UAAP.

In Petron Blaze’s first five games, Racela shared coaching duties with former National team mentor Rajko Toroman.

This was before the Serbian coach was relegated to the San Miguel Beermen in the Asean Basketball League.

Racela also dismissed rumors about players’ petition that may have resulted to Toroman’s transfer.

“There was no petition from the players, pinaikot man o pinirmahan. It was management’s decision. Di gagawin ng mga players yun,” said Racela, who learned about the news just two days before the game.

“I have my players to thank. They know this is practically my first game, they gave me words of encouragement. That meant a lot. Sinuklian ko naman yung with the trust I gave them tonight.”
