PBA: Chot Reyes’ ejection underscores TNT’s frustrations in loss

ANTIPOLO—Chot Reyes’ ejection perhaps typified TNT’s frustrations in its 103-87 loss to previously winless Titan Ultra in Wednesday’s 2026 PBA Governors’ Cup here.

Reyes was tossed after being slapped with a second technical foul during the fourth quarter, with the Tropang 5G trailing big against a Giant Risers’ side that went on to complete the upset at Ynares Center.

“Emotion-shy yun e,” joked his son and TNT assistant coach Josh Reyes.

TNT’s coaching staff will have plenty to sort out after seeing the Tropang 5G getting outplayed starting the second quarter until the lead ballooned to a high of 22.

The Tropang 5G also couldn’t prevent the Giant Risers from dictating the tempo of the contest.

“[Titan Ultra] took advantage of their quickness,” the younger Reyes said. “They had 19 fastbreak points in the first half and it just snowballed from there.”

Next up for TNT is hardlucked Terrafirma on Saturday at the same venue, hoping to get back on winning track despite roster woes.

The Tropang 5G are still missing key players due to injuries, including Calvin Oftana, who played hurt during the Commissioner’s Cup Finals series defeat at the hands of Barangay Ginebra.

“It’s easy to have that as an excuse,” Josh said. “I think that’s the biggest challenge. It’s not basketball per se. It’s the eagerness of everybody.”

Import Darius Days scored 21 points, but only Kim Aurin and RR Pogoy were the other locals in double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.
