FIVE teams which dominated this year’s Champion Infinity WGAP Circuit presented by Pacsports face each other again starting Nov. 9, this time in a Ryder Cup-style duel in the WGAP Cup at Splendido Golf and Country Club in Tagaytay.
Tagaytay Highlands, which held off Alabang’s final leg charge at Sta. Elena to capture the overall championship in the 2012 WGAP circuit, heads the elite field in the keenly awaited event organized by Women’s Golf Association of the Philippines and spread over three days in three of the country’s top championship courses.
The Highlanders, headed by Class A players Totelle Dimson, Grace Kyung Jung Hee, Marixi R. Prieto and Lilibeth de Villa, are the defending WGAP Cup champions.
Villamor, which finished third overall, Forest Hills and Sta. Elena complete the five-team cast in the match play event with the Sta. Elena bets, who wound up sixth in the regular season, taking the last spot after No. 4 Aguinaldo, which ruled the 2010 WGAP Cup, begged off from participating.
Tagaytay leaned on its Class B team’s win at Sta. Elena to frustrate Alabang, assembling a 27-point aggregate after eight legs. The Alabang ladies scored seven points in the final leg but fell short by one with 26 points.
The second match will be held Nov. 14 at Summit Point in Batangas while Sherwood Hills will host the final leg on Nov. 20.
Under the rules, each team of four players per day will play a total of 12 matches in three different formats with the first leg at Splendido restricted to Classes B and C players vying in a Best-Ball format. The second leg at Summit Point will feature the Class A and B players in an Aggregate format event, while Classes A and C players will slug it in the final event under the Greensome format.
Deadline for submission of entries is at 1 p.m., one day before the match.
