Chinese-Taipei outplayed the Philippines in the final half and stormed into the semifinals of the Fiba Asia Under-18 championship with an 81-64 victory Wednesday at the May gym in Sana’a, Yemen.
The Taiwanese outscored the Filipinos in the third quarter, 17-8, for a 55-49 lead, then sustained their momentum to open an insurmountable 69-52 advantage with five minutes left in the knockout quarterfinal duel.
The Taiwanese also grabbed more rebounds, 46-33.
Chinese-Taipei will shoot for a finals slot against South Korea, which crushed Japan, 86-73.
China and Iran will dispute the other title slot.
The Filipinos will now try to salvage fifth place in the consolation pool with a victory over Japan Thursday and another win over the survivor of the Lebanon-Yemen clash on Friday.
