Carl Corpus will be gearing up for the Asian Games in Japan later this month, and will use the Summit Point stop of the ICTSI Philippine Golf Tour next week to sharpen his game and maybe take a third professional victory while doing it.
The 25-year-old will form a three-man Philippine Team together with Miguel Tabuena and Justin delos Santos in the Asiad as they try to become the first golfers to medal after Yuka Saso and the women’s team swept the event in Jakarta in 2018.
Corpus’ slot was originally intended for Rico Hoey, the PGA Tour campaigner in the United States who had to beg off to play the last two tournaments where he hopes to earn enough points to keep his card.
This will be Corpus’ second straight Asiad stint, coming after he and cousin Aidric Chan, another PGT regular, finished 33rd in the individual competition, with the Philippines tying for ninth in team play.
Since Hangzhou, Corpus has steadily established himself on both the international and domestic circuits. He broke through on the Asian Development Tour with a victory in the Morocco Rising Stars Marrakech last year before claiming his first PGT championship at Valley Golf in Antipolo at the close of the 2025 local season.
Meanwhile, Justin Quiban returns to the local circuit when the Lipa, Batangas leg tees off on Tuesday, even as a horde of former leg winners like Antonio Lascuña, Jonel Ababa, Reymon Jaraula, Guido van der Valk and Zanieboy Gialon are also entered, making for a wide-open race for the championship.
The 54-hole ladies side of the event also tees off on Tuesday, with Yvon Bisera leading the field that includes Mafy Singson, Sara Ababa and Chihiro Ikeda.
