MANILA, Philippines – Powerhouse sides Global and Kaya clash for a place in the semifinals Tuesday night at the start of the knockout phase of the United Football League Cup at University of Makati field.
The 7 p.m. showdown pits two teams that figured in the first-division title race that went down to the season’s last tiff with Global just edging Kaya on goal difference to capture its first league title.
Two games were supposed to be played tonight, but with Group C matches involving Loyola Meralco and Pacha-nga Diliman postponed due to an unplayable pitch last Sunday, the league decided to move the quarterfinal match pitting Green Archers United and Group C’s No. 2 team to later this week.
Global rolled to the quarterfinals by topping Group A, while Kaya finished second to Green Archers United in Group B due to an inferior goal difference.
Global is expected to constantly test Kaya’s backline, considered one of the best in the league.
“We really want to make sure that we play our style of football against Kaya,” said Global manager Dan Palami.
