Perpetual eyes back-to-back cheer crowns

MANILA–Perpetual Help tries to make up for its disappointing basketball season when it sets out for back-to-back titles in the 2010 NCAA Cheerleading Championship today at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The multi-titled Perps, who won the crown in lopsided fashion last year, lead the nine-school cast vying for the P100,000 purse in the event held in coordination with the National Cheerleading Championship (NCC).

“It’s going to be a more exciting competition this year,” said Jose Rizal U’s Paul Supan, who heads the cheerleading committee.

The NCAA and the NCC will hold a cheerleading camp prior to the event to give participants lessons on safety measures while they perform their routines.

The second and third placers in the competition will get P60,000 and P50,000, respectively.

Among the schools expected to do well are Jose Rizal, the 2008 champion, which wound up second last year, and 2009 second runner-up Emilio Aguinaldo College.
