MANILA, Philippines – Holy Trinity College leaned on its sweet shooting as it clobbered West Negros University101-77 Monday afternoon in the stepladder phase of the 2012 Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) at the Cebu Coliseum.
The Wildcats, who came out on top of the Mindanao qualifiers held last month, jumped out the gates – thanks to the heady play of guard Christopher Masaglang, who unleashed 12 of his 20 points in the opening quarter.
HTC wasted little time and padded its lead to put the game away early on a strong third quarter, where the Wildcats lead ballooned to 22, 72-50, after a 19-7 run led by Meylan Landicho, who scored 10 consecutive points.
The Wildcats never let up as they established their biggest lead of the game at 28, 83-55.
Landicho finished with 18 points while McDenver Polistico added 15 points, all of which were scored from the perimeter.
The Mustangs got 14 points each from burly forward, Rasmor Catalino and athletic wingman, Jeramer Cabanag.
HTC faces University of the Visayas in the second round of the Sweet 16 Southern Islands group Wednesday.
