Media: Beckham might play 10 games in Australia

SYDNEY — Australian media carried unconfirmed and sketchy reports Friday that David Beckham could be the next football superstar to play in the A-League.

The former England and Manchester United star was reported by the national broadcaster ABC and Australian Associated Press as being “offered around” to several A-League’s teams on a 10-game contract.

The reports said with the Major League Soccer competition finishing in two weeks, the timing would work for the 37-year-old Los Angeles Galaxy player.

Beckham would join former Italian and Juventus forward Alessandro Del Piero (Sydney FC) and ex-Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey (Newcastle), who signed A-League contracts this season.

AAP said the move needed financial backing by Football Federation Australia and that new chief executive David Gallop had to decide whether to support it.
