NCAA: Defending champ San Beda dominates Lyceum, 89-69

Defending champion San Beda sent guest team Lyceum back down to earth with a dominating 89-69 triumph in the NCAA Season 87 Monday at the Arena in San Juan.

The Red Lions, who hiked their winning streak to 20 games dating back to last season, drew another solid game from skipper Garvo Lanete.

Lanete collected 19 points, four rebounds and three steals.

And as well as San Beda played at the scoring end, coach Frankie Lim also gave his squad credit at the defensive side.

“Our pressure defense was good. The effort was there,” commended Lim, whose team improved to 2-0.

The Red Lions held the Pirates to just nine points in the second quarter while also forcing them to commit 28 total turnovers.

Playing behind a frantic crowd, Lyceum—though trailing majority of the game—never lost the fight with backup point guard Dexter Zamora bagging game-high honors with 21 points in a losing cause.

The Pirates absorbed their first setback and dropped to 2-1.
