Lady Altas win 15th straight in NCAA women’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines—Defending champion University of Perpetual Help overwhelmed Mapua, 25-3, 25-14, 25-4, Tuesday in the opening day of the NCAA Season 88 women’s volleyball at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Lady Altas picked up where they left off last season, wasting no time in dominating the hapless Lady Cardinals.

Mapua actually managed to squeeze out just three points from its offensive attacks out of their futile 21-point total as the remaining 18 markers came from unforced errors by Perpetual Help.

Meanwhile, San Sebastian turned back San Beda, 27-25, 25-19, 25-19.

The Lady Stags, who claimed the last Final Four slot last season, made the adjustments in the last two sets after the Red Lionesses threatened to take an early set lead.

Honey Rose Tubino led the Lady Altas’ onslaught with 13 points while power spiker Sandra de los Santos added 12 markers.

Perpetual Help hiked its unbeaten streak to 15 games dating back to last season while also dealing Mapua its 10th straight setback.

Gretchel Soltones led SSC with 14 points, all on spikes.

Janine Marciano matched Soltones’ output with 14 points as well in a losing effort.
