MEMBERS of the big Miñoza golfing clan head some 60 junior aces teeing off today in the inaugural staging of the ICTSI-JGFP Mindanao Inter-School Golf Championship at Del Monte Golf Club in Manolo Fortich, Bukidnon.
The tournament, organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines and main sponsor International Container Terminal Services Inc., is a satellite event of the ongoing ICTSI-JGFP Inter-School Golf Championship in Metro Manila that has attracted an all-time high of 280 players representing 32 schools.
“A venue to forge camaraderie among young talents and to bolster their school spirit, the Inter-School has flourished such that more schools have now acknowledged the significance of golf as a varsity sport,” said JGFP president Luigi Tabuena.
The Bukidnon field includes players from Rosevale, Abbas Orchard, Faith Christian School, Xavier, Manolo Fortich NH, San Miguel ES, Oro Christian Grace, Nanuri IS, Holy Cross, University of the Philippines and Holy Cross. They will vie for honors in six divisions.
The Miñozas—Alfa Mae, Almica, Martina, Kirby, Nino Miguel and Zandre—are all nieces and nephews of golf star Frankie, who recently won the Japan Seniors Open.
