Closer great Mariano Rivera signs one-year deal with Yankees

NEW YORK — Mariano Rivera, the all-time saves leader in Major League Baseball, and the New York Yankees have agreed to terms of a one-year contract.

The New York Daily News reported the deal Friday with the veteran right-handed pitcher is worth $10 million guaranteed with incentives that could bring the total contract up to the $15 million he made in 2012.

The 43-year-old Rivera only pitched in nine games last season because of injuries. The 12-time all-star had five saves with a record of 1-1 and a 2.16 earned run average.

He leads the majors with 608 all-time saves since breaking into the league with New York in 1995.
