Red Warriors, Tiger Spikers prevail

MANILA, Philippines—University of the East stepped up in the final two sets to defeat University of the Philippines, 13-25, 25-22, 18-25, 25-21 and 15-10 in the 75th UAAP men’s volleyball competition Sunday.

The Warriors made everyone forget their lackadaisical first-set performance, 13-25, and forged a deciding set en route to their first win of the season at the Arena in San Juan.

Homer Lauresta, who led UE with 17 hits along with Angelo Torres scored on an attack before to put his squad at match point Ralph Pradel came up with a game-winning block.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas needed four sets to overcome La Salle, 25-16, 22-25, 25-17, 25-23, in the other men’s tiff.

Mark Gil Alfafara paced the Tiger Spikers with 20 points, while Salvador Depante had 19 including the attack that paved the way for the clincher in the fourth set.
