Ateneo cruises past UE in UAAP women’s volleyball

MANILA, Philippines – Ateneo breezed past University of the East 25-16, 25-13, 25-13 Wednesday in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Fille Cainglet came through with 13 points in limited play to lead the Lady Eagles to their second win in as many games.

“We were able to execute our plays and that’s our advantage,” said the bubbly spiker Cainglet, who’s in her last playing year.

Ateneo, last season’s runner-up to La Salle, easily found the space on UE’s defense with Alyssa Valdez scoring all of her 10 points on spikes.

The Lady Warriors, who slipped to 0-2, had 28 errors as to the Lady Eagles 17.

UE, which lost to UP in five sets in its first game, drew futile output from its players with team captain Maria Dawis held to just five points.

Ateneo nipped FEU in its opening game last Saturday.
