CHONBURI, Thailand—Miguel Tabuena showed the way for the small Filipino contingent with an even-par 72 in the second round Friday to trail South Africa’s Charl Schwartzel by 12 shots in the $1-million Thailand Golf Championship.
Tabuena, one of the Asian Tour’s young lions, pooled 142 for two days counting his 70 Thursday.
Schwartzel raced to a four-shot clubhouse lead with a second straight 65 and a 14-under-par 130 total.
Juvic Pagunsan managed a 74 and lay at 143, a shot ahead of Angelo Que and Elmer Salvador.
Daniel Chopra of Sweden carded a 67 to trail in second place on 134 in the full-field Asian Tour event while Japan’s Masanori Kobayashi was a further shot back in third place after a 67 as well.
Thai Thithiphun Chuaypra-kong was alongside Kobayashi at nine-under for the tournament with three holes to complete.
