Cabrera grabs twin kart crowns

GABRIEL Tayao Cabrera scored twin victories recently, snaring the FK Expert and Formula SQ 125 Expert crowns in the 2012 Red Bull Race Off at Kart Trak Boomland in Pasay.

The 12-year-old Seaoil-DC-Kart Plaza karter bested Arthur “AT” Tuason of TRS and Mike Andal of SIM Racing in the FK Expert division.

He was the lone kid entry in the SQ 125 Expert class but relegated the more experienced Paulo Ferrer of Pinoy Karting and TRS Kart instructor Daryl Brady to second and third places, respectively.

“I was challenged by the reverse grid system in the finals,” said Cabrera. “Boomland is a very technical track where skills counted more than engine power.”

Cabrera is one of the country’s five Mini-ROK contenders in the 2012 Asian Karting Open Series in Indonesia this weekend.

Cabrera has also caught the attention of Winds Formula’s Japanese scouts who gave the young racer the opportunity to test drive their open wheel cars. The scouts are likewise considering Cabrera for inclusion in their pool of trainees. Steve Silva, Contributor
