MANILA, Philippines — Marcio Lassiter suffered no serious fracture even after a bad fall in Petron’s 87-92 loss to San Mig Coffee Wednesday night, results of the initial x-ray showed.
SMC executive Noli Eala confirmed this news on his Twitter account past midnight Friday, after Lassiter was rushed to the hospital midway the payoff period for tests.
“Initial x-ray findings: no fracture, just muscle spasm and bone bruise. Marcio still in the hospital though for more observation due to continued pain,” said Eala.
But Eala later on said that Lassiter was feeling “a lot better and walking already,” and “will be discharged tonight.”
Just as he was all fired up offensively, Lassiter, though, wasn’t able to finish what he started for the Boosters, who was shown the door by the Mixers last night.
“We were fortunate that Lassiter went out, but we don’t want to see a player go down like that. I just hope he’s okay,” said San Mig Coffee coach Tim Cone in Wednesday night’s post game.
With 5:51 left in the game and Petron up 74-69, Lassiter skied high to deflect the inbound pass but lost his balance then fell hard on his back.
For a few minutes, Lassiter laid in his stomach in the baseline, while grimacing in pain as he held on to his lower back.
According to Eala, though, Lassiter did not feel numbness on his back, but was under immense pain just after the fall.
“(He) couldn’t even sit down. But no numbness,” Eala said, also on his Twitter account.
But Lassiter might be looking at weeks of recovery ahead of him, as reports (https://pba.inquirer.net/4967/frost-byte-snow-badua) said he is still in a lot of pain and needs to be monitored closely for the next few days.
