UAAP bets grab meager medal haul
TEAM UAAP-Philippines picked up four more medals Tuesday, but dropped to seventh overall heading into the final day of the 16th Asean University Games in Vientiane, Laos.
University of the Philippines tanker Claire Adorna joined forces with Ateneo standouts Celina Gonzalez, Jasmine Ong and Kim Uy to give the Philippines a silver in the women’s 4×100-meter freestyle relay.
Malaysia, led by Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Siow Yi Ting and Cai Lin, captured the gold by clocking 4 minutes and .49 seconds, almost six seconds faster than the Filipinos (4:06.39).
Article continues after this advertisementAdorna also bagged the bronze in the women’s 100m backstroke after checking in at 1:07.31 behind Malaysian swimmers Chan Kah Yan and Chui Lai Kwan.
Also collecting bronze medals were Johansen Aguilar of La Salle in the men’s 100m backstroke, and Far Eastern U athletics standout Rafael Poliquit, who was third in the men’s 10,000 meters. Aguilar still has one more race—the 200m freestyle. Cedelf Tupas
