Tambunting-Pascual gains Nicklaus Invitational finals
JOSEPH Tambunting and Teody Pascual will represent the Philippines in the Jack Nicklaus International Invitational Finals in Columbus, Ohio in May after topping the Best of the Best Tournament at Sta. Elena Golf Club recently.
As winner over 32 other duos, the Filipino pair will also get to experience pampering like no other with VIP accommodations set for each team and a chance to watch the PGA Tour’s The Memorial Tournament.
The Filipinos—as well as entries from the United States, China, Denmark, Indonesia, Italy, Korea, Mexico, New Zealand, South Africa—will also get to meet and mingle with the legendary Nicklaus during the affair.
Columbus, Ohio is the birthplace of Nicklaus, the all-time leader of major championships won in history with 18. Nicklaus is also the host of The Memorial.
Tambunting-Pascual, which has an official team handicap of four, scored a net 59 at the well-manicured Sta. Elena layout to beat the pair of Shean Bedi and former professional Vince Lauron by three.
“We weren’t too familiar with the course in Sta. Elena to begin with and so it was really challenging for us,” said Tambunting.
Tambunting-Pascual will be eyeing to win the event for the second time for the Philippines, which first triumphed in 2007.
“We are honored and definitely excited to be representing the country in the International Finals. Hopefully we could bring home the bacon,” said Pascual. Musong R. Catillo
