De La Salle Zobel fives bag WBL titles
DE LA SALLE Zobel pulled off contrasting victories in two separate finals to capture a double championship in the Women’s Basketball League recently at Jacinto Tiu Competition Court in Xavier Sachool.
Bernice Marie Therese Paraiso fired seven of her 13 points in the final quarter as De La Salle Zobel nipped Miram College-Team A, 39-33, to clinch its second successive under-13 crown.
The La Salle girl dribblers, though, came out more dominating in bagging the title in the 17-under competitive category where Most Valuable Player Kathleen Therese Nuñez drilled 24 points for a 61-38 rout of sister school La Salle College-Antipolo.
Article continues after this advertisementIn the 17-under developmental category, St. James Academy of Malabon triumphed after drubbing Assumption College-Antipolo, 38-17, behind a balanced charge led by Genna Cruz.
Philippine Women’s University also nailed a title after slipping past University of Santo Tomas, 46-45, in the college division. MVP Nikka Andrea Tupaz paced the Lady Patriots with 19 points.
Third-place honors went to Assumption Antipolo (elementary), Miriam College (17-under competitive), Jose Abad Santos Memorial School (17-under developmental) and University of the Philippines (college).
