Lascuña gets nod as Tour players’ No. 1

Antonio Lascuña capped a year to remember by winning the Players’ Player of the Year award in the ICTSI circuit that ended over the weekend at Wack Wack East.

The unassuming 42-year-old won three titles this season, capping a dominating performance with a nine-shot victory over a stellar field in the Wack Wack Championship that also sealed his Order of Merit win.

“This is really my best year,” Lascuña said. “I can’t ask for anything more.”

Lascuña won more than P2.5 million locally and finished as the best Filipino in the Asian Tour at 12th place.

“I worked very hard for it, had a swing change and trained hard to polish my game,” added Lascuña, who has won practically all major titles in the country, save for the Philippine Open.

Last season, Juvic Pagunsan won the OOM on the strength of four leg victories but the players voted for rookie Jonel Ababa, a three-leg winner, as their Player of the Year.

Canlubang Golf and Country Club  was voted as the best course of the 15-leg circuit with Jik-Jik Abdon going home with the Best Amateur award.

Rolly Viray, stalwart of the Cangolf Senior team in the PAL Interclub, received the award for Canlubang.
