Alex Compton, Alaska’s assistant coach, was very upset over the technical foul slapped on him by referee Edward Aquino in Game 4 of the ongoing PBA best-of-seven semifinal series against Talk ‘N Text.
Alex said it was the very first technical ever called on him in the 31 years he has been involved in organized basketball.
“I’d like to set the record straight once and for all. I’ve been receiving texts, questions, and have even been getting stopped in public and asked why I got a technical.”
Alex related that at the 1:15 mark of the second quarter of the game, RJ Jazul was called for a foul on Jayson Castro.
“I stood up about one foot from my seat for literally one second as I said ‘Oh!’ and sat back down again. These can be clearly seen on the film.
“Referee Aquino gave me a technical foul for improper bench decorum. As the first assistant, I am allowed to stand up.
“After the half he told me I should have been given a technical for continuous complaining instead. The next day after speaking with PBA technical head Ramil Cruz, I was told I should have been given a technical for resentment to a call instead. “

“In all my 31 years in organized basketball, I have never received a technical foul for complaining to or disrespecting a referee until Game 4. That being said, I fully respect the authority of commissioner Chito Salud, the authority of Ramil Cruz, and the authority of the referees.
