THE NEWLY elected officers of the Philippine Olympic Committee will chart the course of the Olympic body over the next four years during a planning session set Jan. 8 and 9.
Preparations for the 2013 Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar in December and long-term programs leading to the country’s quest for a first gold medal in the Olympics will highlight the two-day planning session to be held at the residence of POC president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr.
POC first vice president Joey Romasanta said the initial target is an improved performance in the SEA Games to pave the way for a strong showing in the Asian Games next year and the 2016 Olympics in Rio De Janeiro.
“You cannot expect our athletes to win medals in the Asian Games or in the Olympics if they can’t even beat the best in the SEA Games,” said Romasanta.
He added that the target for the 11-nation meet in Myanmar would be made when SEA Games organizers have finalized the roster of events.
