SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Roxanne Resma boosted her bid for a double title after ousting Monica Therese Cruz, 6-4, 6-0, yesterday to barge into the girls’ 16-under quarterfinals even as the No. 1 18-under bet also gained a bye in the quarterfinals of the premier division in the 24th Andrada Cup tennis tournament at Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
Resma will next face the winner of the Angelica Mosqueda-Coleen Sioson match still going on at presstime.
In the centerpiece 18-under, Resma will get going against Khim Iglupas who advanced with a trouble-free 6-0, 6-0 win over Cherinise Mamaril.
Also winning in the 18-under were Isabella Orteza, who downed Samantha Um, 6-2, 6-3, to set up a duel against Patricia Nicole Paez, who outlasted Johanna Capinpin, 2-6, 7-6 (2), 10-7.
Nicole Amistad blanked Denise Jimenez, 6-0, 6-0, to move up against Maia Balce, who won by default over Donn Fai Esperanzate.
Isabella Mendoza clobbered Hana Hernandez, 6-1, 6-2, to also progress against Katrina Orteza, winner by walkover over Ysay Jardelesa.
Top seed Diego Dayrit eliminated Rafael Tomblin, 6-0, 5-0 (ret.), and No. 2 Jan Harold Trillanes whitewashed Angelica Alcala, 6-0, 6-0, to reach the quarters in the 10-under unisex of the event sponsored by Dunlop Fort All Court Balls, Philippine Sports Commission, First Solid Group, St. Luke’s Medical Center and Sagip Bayan Foundation.
Third seed Alexandra Eala downed Prince Nadera, 6-2, 6-0, to arrange a quarterfinal match with No. 8 Daniel Estanislao III, who blanked Adam Sujica, 6-0, 6-0. No. 4 Cesar Salimbangon trounced Rainer Selmar, 6-1, 7-6 (8-6), to set a showdown with Alfred Doloroso.
