UST, NU resume UAAP volleyball bids

University of of Santo Tomas tries to stay in the top four when the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament resumes Saturday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

The Tigresses, holding the solo fourth spot at 2-2, tackle the winless University of the East at 2 p.m. behind UST ace spiker Maru Banaticla.

National University, meanwhile, hopes to arrest a two-game skid versus Far Eastern University at 3:30 p.m.

Banaticla had a personal season-best of 13 hits in the Tigresses’ straight-set triumph over University of the Philippines, 25-18, 25-11, 25-14, last Dec. 15.

But the Tigresses also hope to draw key contributions from skipper Judy Caballejo, Loren Lantin, Maika Ortiz and Carmela Tunay.

Ateneo paces the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record, the school’s best start in the sport since joining the league in 1978.   Jasmine W. Payo
