UAAP: NU wins in baseball opener, Adamson still unbeaten in softball

MANILA, Philippines—National University started its campaign for a second straight title on a winning note after scraping past University of the Philippines, 3-2, in the UAAP Season 75 baseball tournament at the Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium over the weekend.

Ateneo, last year’s runner-up, made its presence felt early with a 15-3 whipping of Adamson even as University of Santo Tomas tripped De La Salle, 9-4.

Meanwhile, softball play saw its resumption after a long holiday break. The Lady Falcons carried their dominating ways into the new year with an 8-1 crushing of the Lady Maroons.

Adamson, a team boosted by standouts from the Manila squad which won the World Series Big League title in Michigan last year, remained unstoppable in five stints.

The Lady Falcons, though, have no time to celebrate just yet with the Tigresses just a game behind in the standings.

UST remained in second place boasting a 3-1 card following an easy win over La Salle, 11-2, in five innings.

University of the East turned back NU, 7-2, to tie the Lady Bulldogs in fourth at 2-2.

The Lady Archers fell to 2-3 in fifth place while The Lady Maroons and the Lady Eagles hold 1-3 and 0-4 marks, respectively.

Action in lawn tennis starts this weekend at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center as well as chess, to be held at the Far Eastern University auditorium.
