NATIONAL University started its title-retention bid in baseball with a shaky win even as Adamson stayed unbeaten in softball in separate UAAP action at Rizal Memorial Baseball Stadium over the weekend.
In volleyball, both NU and Ateneo moved within a win of a first-round sweep in the men and women’s games, respectively, also last weekend at Filoil Flying V Arena.
Peter Torres and Reyson Fuentes hit a combined 29 points as the Bulldogs rallied from a set down against University of Santo Tomas, 19-25, 25-12, 29-27, 25-20, for a sixth straight victory in men’s volleyball.
Ateneo also stayed perfect at 6-0 with Alyssa Valdez matching a career-best 30 points to power the Lady Eagles past Adamson in a five-set thriller, 22-25, 25-23, 18-25, 25-23, 15-11.
The Bulldogs nipped the University of the Philippines Maroons, 3-2, in the day’s baseball thriller. Ateneo, last season’s runner-up, crushed Adamson, 15-3, while UST thumped La Salle, 9-4.
In softball, the Lady Falcons remained unchallenged in five games with an 8-1 rout of the Lady Maroons.
UST crushed La Salle, 11-2.
